How to sew a tablecloth

Probably one of the easiest things to sew is a tablecloth, so this is a great project for beginner sewers (like me!). One advantage of making your own tablecloth is that you can choose the fabric that fits best to your taste and the room that it will live in! Often it is very difficult to find what I exactly want in shops and I prefer natural fabrics so that is another challenge. There is also a great joy of being surrounded with things you created and put effort in.

So this post is about how to make a tablecloth from your favorite fabric in an easy and straightforward way. You will need fabric, scissor, pins,measuring tape (and sewing machine but I think it can be also sewed by hand, although it might take a bit longer :) )

Then next step is to decide how big the tablecloth should be and for that you need to measure your table and I suggest 30 cm drops on each side of the table. So we will add 60 cm to the width and length of the table for the tablecloth measurements. Also add 1 cm for each edge of the tablecloth that we will fold in and sew for nice and clean look. My table is 80 x 135 cm so I aim to cut a 142 x 197 cm fabric. Because I had a fabric that had a width of  146 cm, I did not cut its width any further as few centimeters less or more does not matter for the tablecloth.

Once you have the fabric cut, we fold all edges in by 1 cm and pin them. Then we do a straight stitch on all edges to sew the folded edge.

And your tablecloth is ready! All that is left is placing it on your table, and having a cup of tea and enjoying the rest of your day!

MASA ÖRTÜSÜ DİKİMİ

Sanırım dikmesi en kolay şeylerden biri masa örtüsü olabilir, o yüzden benim gibi acemi için çok uygun bir proje oldu. Kendi masa örtümü yapmanın en sevdiğim yanlarından biri istediğim kumaşı seçebilmek oldu! Evimde emek verdiğim şeylerin olması ise ayrı bir mutluluk kaynağı.

Bu yazıda en sevdiğiniz kumaştan kolay bir şekilde nasıl masa örtüsü yapılacağını paylaşıyorum.

Gereken malzemeler: Kumaş, makas, iğneler, mezura (ve dikiş makinesi ama biraz daha uzun sürse bile  elde de dikilebilir diye düşünüyorum :))

Bir sonraki adım, masa örtüsünün ne kadar büyük olması gerektiğine karar vermek ve bunun için masayı ölçelim ve masanın her tarafına 30 cm'lik ekstra kumaş öneriyorum. Bu yüzden masa örtüsü ölçüleri için masa genişliğine ve uzunluğuna 60 cm ekleyelim. Ayrıca güzel ve temiz bir görünüm için katlayacağımız ve dikeceğimiz masa örtüsünün her kenarına 1 cm ekleyelim. Benim masam 80 x 135 boyutlarındacm, bu yüzden 142 x 197 cm kumaş kesmeyi hedefliyorum. 146 cm genişliğinde bir kumaşım olduğu için ve masa örtüsü için birkaç santimetre daha az veya daha fazla önemli olmadığı için enini daha fazla kesmedim.

Kumaşı kestikten sonra tüm kenarları 1 cm katlayıp tutturalım. Ardından katlanmış kenarı dikmek için tüm kenarlara düz bir dikiş yapalım.

Ve masa örtünüz hazır! Geriye kalan tek şey, onu masanıza yerleşirmek, bir fincan çay içmek ve günün geri kalanının tadını çıkarmak!
